Fernando has over 35 years of experience in senior level sales, engineering and management and oversees the strategy and vision of Permlight. He determines the markets and opportunities the company will pursue and which products to develop.
Fernando has held various positions in sales, engineering, manufacturing and management of power diodes and also national lighting maintenance programs. He has three published patents on power packaging for thermal management of diodes and several on LED light engines.
In 1981 Fernando started his career at Solid State Devices, Inc., rapidly graduating to Plant Manager running Production, Engineering and Quality Control. His expertise in electronics assembly and thermal management of power diodes and materials utilizing minimum heatsink space allowed him to effectively provide high-level solutions to aerospace giants such as NASA, Boeing, Martin Marietta, RCA, GE and Lockheed. In 1995 he progressed to Microsemi (MSCC), creating the Power Module Group serving the same aerospace customers. Fernando then spearheaded new materials research, project and product management, patent design and writing for implantable and audio medical electronics market for manufacturers such as Guidant, Medtronic, St. Jude, Biotronic and Siemens.
In 2002 Fernando changed career paths to Sunset Lighting, where he managed national lighting service, design, installation, retrofit projects, surveys and energy payback calculations for national retail chains such as Disney, West Marine, Cheesecake Factory, BCBG and regional banks such as Union Bank.
Fernando joined Permlight in 2005 with experience and expertise in lighting, maintenance and diodes, which perfectly dovetailed into light emitting diodes (LED) that were just becoming sufficiently efficacious to use for general lighting. His responsiveness and proactive approach to customers and suppliers, coupled with his enthusiasm for the Permlight product and applications underscore his natural leadership abilities and carefully planned approach to expanding the business.
Fernando targeted a medical degree at Oral Roberts University and California State University, Fullerton. He and his wife reside in south Orange County California and he has three adult children.
